Have you ever observed when you wake up early in the morning,  tiny droplets of water are there on grass, leaves, and cars parked in the open. You were surely amazed that it was rainy last night?

Why Is the Grass Wet In the Morning?

It was not raining, it was Dew. Now the question arises

What is Dew?

Dew is a small waterdrop which is formed due to condensation of water at low temperature. It can be clearly seen in winter and on cool summer mornings.

Why does dew drops form?

The formation of dew is a simple atmospheric phenomenon that is happening in the ecosystem. As we all know that during the daytime the rate of evaporation is high due to the sun’s radiation or heat but as the sun going to set there is a drop in temperature also which increases the rate of condensation. The water vapor starts settling down on the cooler surface as now the air becomes heavy and it is not able to hold water vapor anymore hence it make water droplet to settle down on cool surfaces.

It is the same as you observed when you are taking shower with hot water in winters and saw water droplets onto the mirror surface. Similarly, the water droplets are seen around a glass of water when it is taken out from the refrigerator and kept aside for some time. The temperature at which the dewdrop form is called the dew point. Dew is usually formed at night because at night the Earth cools down more than the atmosphere.

Dew formation is very useful for plants also. It reduces the rate of transpiration from plant surfaces. It keeps them hydrated for a long time. Some of the plants are absorbing dew water from their leaf surfaces.

So we can say these tiny droplets of water not only make morning beautiful but also contribute to our ecosystem.
